Welcome to the new Subaru Outback vs Subaru Levorg comparison for 2019. We just found out that we haven’t compared the Levorg and the Outback before. The Subaru Levorg was regarded as a bespoke JDM wagon for those who wanted a WRX but didn’t need the extra space of the Outback or the SUV like setup in the Forester or even the slightly smaller Imprezza or XV Crosstrek which is also marketed as a separate models. The Levorg is basically a wagon version of the IWRX or mprezza and has a performance orientated setup.
Subaru Outback vs Subaru Levorg exterior design : The Outback’s design is clearly a high rise wagon based on the Legacy or Liberty wagon with bonus plastic cladding. It’s not a good looking or a modern car design. The Levorg is based on the Imprezza sedan and ‘hatch’ but stretched for a wagon like appearsnce. Yes it still looks like the Imprezza hatch but it is marketed as a distinct and separate model. The WRX front end helps in the appearance stakes as well. The Levorg looks much nicer than the Outback.
Subaru Outback vs Subaru Levorg interior: The Outback interior is a nice place to be dependent on model grade. It’s not luxury but the materials and design are what you’d expect in 2019. That said, the soon to be released 2020 model has a nicer design but still the same high quality materials. The Levorg still has the old style Imprezza interior pre 2020 model so while it’s still nice. A 2019 comparison though it’s the Levorg that has the nicer albeit smaller interior.
Subaru Outback vs Subaru Levorg engines and technology: The Outback’s three engine choices for 2019 are pretty good with the F6 the best choice for performance. The shared 2.4 litre throughout the Subaru model range (except for the Levorg) is not bad even with the CVT but it’s not fast or sporty to drive. In comparison the Levorg differa from the donor Imprezza but having turbo engines including the 2.0 petrol turbo from the WRX. Combined with stiffer suspension the Levorg is the best drive with decent ride comfort. Safety systems are shared so class leading on the top of the range models.
Subaru Outback vs Subaru Levorg street Cred: The older Levorg’s have street cred beyond than older Outbacks specifically amongst the JDM crew. Unfortunately the latest Levorg does not have the same level .
The conclusion to the new Subaru Outback vs Subaru Levorg comparison is probably the Outback. Why? The Outback is the nicer day to day drive and with raised suspension can do some light off road trails. Most of it’s relatively cheaper especially for the F6. The Levorg is a WRX wagon and should be judged as that, it’s not an SUV but a performance wagon which is unique in the world. Not many commercial journalists hence normal people do not understand the Levorg and that is probably for the better, it’s a JDM car for JDM enthusiasts.
