This is the Volkswagen Tiguan vs Skoda Karoq comparison for 2020. These are direct competitors in the small to medium sized SUV class and indeed the Karoq is essentially the same platform generation as the current VW Tiguan but with different styling on the inside and outside.
Volkswagen Tiguan vs Skoda Karoq exterior design : Both are conservative ‘best lost’ in the parking lot type designs. The Tiguan is physically bigger despite being positioned as a smallish SUV while the Karoq still has an even more conservative look. It also appears that Skoda has deliberately downplayed the looks to fit is market and pricing ambitions so looks cheaper than the Tiguan. Regardless both look very similar which is disappointing.
Volkswagen Tiguan vs Skoda Karoq: The interior styling in the Karoq is an older T-bar design using parts from the prior generation Tiguan. We thing it’s been inspired by the 2000’s Toyota Camry. It’s a simple design to look at and be in although the materials good are not the same as the Tiguan on first impression. The VW has a more up to date interior design and materials and it still a good and more upmarket place to be in. However it is only slightly more interesting than the Karoq. The Tiguan and Karoq also have the ‘allspace’ version which is longer to accomodate seats for 7 people.
Volkswagen Tiguan vs Skoda Karoq engines and technology: Both share the same engines and safety systems. Their appointments are dependent on model grade, which is 2 models for the Karoq and 3 for the VW but with a number of optional trim and accessary packages. EG colours, stereo systems and adaptive cruise control, front parking sensors etc… No more diesel engines are available and yet still have the problematic DSG gearboxes. The Karoq has standard digital dashboard. In the end both turn out to be about the same price if you start ticking the option boxes which is marketing fail since the Skoda brand does not have the same attention as even a mere Volkswagen. VW still insists on turbo turbo tuning which is still a rip off.
The conclusion and winner of the Volkswagen Tiguan vs Skoda Karoq comparison is a draw. It’s basically your choice on the badge, interior and exterior designs and even option and trim packs. Neither has street cred or features worth mentioning or set them apart from the competition. As a result the price is about the same for either unless there is a pricing special. Which one do you want to be seen in and be in. We can’t decide… That’s the problem with vanilla SUVs there are other more interesting models to choose from.
