This is the new Mazda CX-3 Vs Mazda CX-30 comparison for 2020. All new for 2020 the Mazda CX-30 is yet another model to the high rise hatchbacks or SUV class. Mazda doesn’t have real 4WD or off road capable cars bar the BT-50 ute aka the basis for the Ford Ranger. The new CX-30 doesn’t change the makeup but it is an interesting model with a odd name in the scope of the current Mazda range.
The question we often consider is whether these new models are actually an SUV in a traditional sense. In all honestly these are variants of regular hatch backs with raised suspension and large wheels and tyres. Of course we will call them SUVs for comparison sakes as that is what they are marketed as but practically they are high rise hatchbacks and compromised mini-vans.
Mazda CX-3 Vs Mazda CX-30 exterior: The exterior of the new CX-30 is very elegant as it is based on the Mazda 3 with an extra rear window. Mazda have not just and simply raised the ride height on the Mazda 3 but changed the CX-30 body dimensions. In the end it is more upmarket in looks with plastic clawing to impart the impression of being more rugged. Mazda has even ‘followed’ the trend of offering few external ‘enhancements’ to denote that model grade except for the wheel and tyre profile. In comparison the CX-3 still looks like a contemporary model and as it is based on the Mazda 2 is the smaller SUV. The new CX-30 design doesn’t make the CX-3 look like a older model which is a good thing.
Mazda CX-3 Vs Mazda CX-30 interior: The interior of the CX-30 is similar yet quite different fromm the Mazda 3 or the CX-5. In fact it’s more up market in terms of materials, look and feel compared to the exisiting Mazda model range. It’s a nice very place to be in for 2020 and upmarket in terms of design with trim options. In comparison the CX-3 interior while still a nice pace to be is looking and feeling a little cheaper. That said the CX-3 is still a nice place to be but smaller and it still still better than it’s direct competitors. Overall we like the new CX-30 impressive for the price.
Mazda CX-3 Vs Mazda CX-30 engine and technology: While the exterior rand interior are bespoke to the range the engines and technology is not. The engines are fuel efficient for non-turbos yet still make lots of power for their capacity. There are lots of safety systems arguably more advanced than the older CX-3 and there is a BOSE branded speaker system which means decent sound although a little indistinct. In comparison the CX-3 still has decent engine and safety systems but it is model grade dependent.
The winner of the Mazda CX-3 Vs Mazda CX-30 is the CX-30. At recommended retail prices, there is an approx $5000 difference between the two models but the CX-30 is arguably worth it due to better refinement, size and materials. In real life shoppers would often have to decide between a mid-range CX-3 or the mid range CX-30 including on roads costs. That said the any of the CX-30 models grades are very good and certainly better than the CX-3 equivalent.
