Welcome to our comparison of the Holden Arcadia vs Toyota Kluger for 2018. The two are direct competitors in terms of space size and pricing. Both are petrol V6 and designed for the US market rather than worldwide. There are few competitors in this class of essentially minivans but with less space flexibility and moulded into the 2018 version called the SUV. We’ve used the GMC images on the press materials as they are better quality than the Holden versions.
Holden Arcadia vs Toyota Kluger exterior: Like most GM designs the new Holden Arcadia is a mix of design clues by other manufacturers. However the Arcadia has Jeep and Subaru design themes. The side profile clearly has Jeep Cherokee styling the front Subaru themes, overall it’s not too bad to look at but a bit more unique styling would have been better to make it standout as a new model. We feel GM has too many elements of it’s South Korean Daewoo studio design sameness or ‘copying’ which unfortunately cheapness the look. That said maybe that’s that ultimate purpose of this design. The Toyota Kluger with it’s visual updates looks like a Toyota which is to say it is not offensive to look and conservative.
Holden Arcadia vs Toyota Kluger interior: The Kluger design reminds us of North American design entered around the driver extending to the centre console. than lots of empty space. The rest of the interior is nice enough while no interior which is the what the Kluger is about. Mind you the top end $70,000 Kluger is simply overpriced. The new Holden Arcadia is just like the Kluger in concept just using a more conventional and not space efficient centre console but elsewhere there is plenty of space. It looks and feels good but dependent on model grade with the proper screen in the middle of the dash lifts it above the Kluger. Like the Kluger the top range Arcadia is overpriced at around $70,000.
Holden Arcadia vs Toyota Kluger engines and technology: The Arcadia is a standout in standard safety systems and includes Auto brakes as standard. Again the higher the model grade the better the features. The Arcadia has a sporting V6 petrol engine with plenty of power but high in the range. Like Diesel engines V6 petrols are out of favour due to higher fuel consumption but there’s a character and drivability the the in trend Il4 turbos don’t have yet. The Kluger likewise has auto brakes and better safety systems dependent on model grade hence equal to the Arcadia in this department. The Kluger’s V6 is a constant but it’s decent enough but only has ‘8 gears’ to the 9 in the Arcadia. Both are pretty much equal in all regards with only gadgets separating them.
Holden Arcadia vs Toyota Kluger road test: N/A
The conclusion to the Holden Arcadia vs Toyota Kluger comparison is a draw. The Holden Arcadia is a perfect example of the new GM product design language and package. The Arcadia delivers the class average design and materials from arguably 5 years ago and there is nothing wrong with that if that is what you are after. It may impress those upgrading from 10 year cars but not if you have had a look at the competition. The Kluger is at an advantage as it is over 3 years old design yet looks as modern on the outside and just as good if not better than the Arcadia. Based on price you are paying $50,000 of either one of these cars to get them on the road and $70,000 for the top range models is a high asking price. We would wait for the Arcadia to drop in price before considering and the Kluger only on special. If you want space we recommend you check out he Kia Sorento or even the Honda Odyssey due to their value for money. However if you like the look of either then it will be a tough choice if you don’t consider the reputed long term reliability of rite Kluger.
