This is our Honda HR-V Vs Mazda CX-30 comparison for 2022. The CX-30 was only released in late 2019 just prior to the lockdowns. It is probably best described as the SUV alternative to the Mazda3 which means their marketing describes it as a premium model. The Honda HR-V is a new model for 2022 and so far it has not endeared it’s self to us in any meaningful way mainly due to it’s pricing. So does the HR-V compare to the CX-30?
Honda HR-V Vs Mazda CX-30 exterior comparison: The HR-V is priced as a premium SUV – no question, unfortunately it’s looks are not premium. It does look nice but that is the best description. In comparison the CX-30 looks like a high rise Mazda3 in hatchback form. While there is little adornment to differentiate the CX-30 model grades it still looks a little more premium and definitely sportier than the Honda.
Honda HR-V Vs Mazda CX-30 interior comparison: The HRV interior is a good place to be in. It is mostly a minimalistic design with a tech inspired diamond line across the dash to give it a Honda family link and retro inspired feel. While the dashboard has some character the rest of the interior is pretty minimalistic and plain but at least the materials a decent. In comparison the CX-30 interior feels smaller and can be described a retro-modern and European inspired in design. It looks and feels exactly like the Mazda3 and is a premium experience. It is luxury by 2010’s standards that’s for sure but not 2022. That said, by current standards it is better than the norm you get in other SUVs for the same price.
Honda HR-V Vs Mazda CX-30 drive report : N/A
Honda HR-V Vs Mazda CX-30 engines and tech comparison: The HRV has the underpowered petrol IL4 but a decent hybrid petrol as options. The Honda does not have any additional fancy features that are much needed for the asking price. Safety system are class standard dependent on model grade. In comparison the Mazda CX-30’s big news for 2022 is the introduction of mild hybrid and a mild hybrid with a supercharger petrol on some CX-30 models. You have to give Mazda credit for making the most economical non turbo engines in the world at least on paper. In real life your experience may vary but for us our Mazda’s are close enough to the lowest claimed figures. In particular the Mazda2 which differs by a mere .2 on average to the lowest claimed fuel consumption. Now that they have mild Hybrid options it should be the equal or better than the less efficient Hybrids.
The conclusion and winner of the Honda HR-V Vs Mazda CX-30 is the CX-30. The Honda HR-V does have some great attributes but not for the price. In comparison the Mazda CX-30 offers more stuff and regardless of design is a more upmarket experience and most of all an actual driving experience. The CX-30 has a mild Hybrid and a mild hybrid with a supercharger engine option which are amazing advances and contrast to other brands which are no longer developing any petrol powered engines. This style of Hybrid means that a regular gear box can be used and means a traditional and better driving experience. The question is what type of buyer are you?
