This is our Honda HR-V Vs Toyota Yaris Cross comparison for 2022. The HR-V has been an eye opener since release in terms of pricing and not so much design which is an eye closer. The Toyota Yaris Cross beat it to the market buy nearly a year and is a strangely polarising model – for a Toyota. They are arch rivals so we compared them at the showroom level.
Honda HR-V Vs Toyota Yaris Cross exterior comparison: Although similar in overall profile the Yaris Cross exterior is more provocative then the HR-V. This is a relative comparison since both are ultimately conservative designs. As a base model the Yaris Cross look like a base model whereas the HRV always does. The Yaris Cross is smaller than the HRV but it is surprisingly roomy but not as good as the HRV naturally.
Honda HR-V Vs Toyota Yaris Cross interior comparison: The interior of the HR-V is pretty good, airy looks, minimal and good quality. Unfortunately it doesn’t quite match the asking price. In comparison the Yaris Cross has an interior best described as youthful. It has hard plastics that look like hard plastics throughout but it does look and feel sturdy. We would rather be in the HRV any day. Mind you the better sounding stereo in the Yaris Cross is a surprising feature.
Honda HR-V Vs Toyota Yaris Cross drive report : N/A
Honda HR-V Vs Toyota Yaris Cross engines and tech comparison: The base engines on both are a little underpowered for the weight and that they are equipped with CVTs but they also come with a Hybrid option which the HRV has more power – officially. In comparison the Yaris Cross has noticeably better fuel economy. Toyota does not quote a combined or true torque value as it depends many factors – cop out perhaps. Safety tech for both are dependent on model grade but the Yaris Cross appears to have more including AWD that costs approx $10000 less than the HRV.
The conclusion and winner of the Honda HR-V Vs Toyota Yaris Cross is clearly The Yaris Cross. When released the Yaris Cross appeared overpriced for a Yaris based small SUV however post-pandemic it is actually reasonably priced. The Yaris Cross fuel economy is amazing compared to the thirsty HRV and with similar spec and on road performance than it also adds AWD makes the Yaris Cross a winner compared to the overpriced and underspend HRV. That’s not even considering the additional safety systems in auto braking situations and adaptive cruise control – costing $7000 less than the HR-V.
