This is the new Jeep Renegade Vs Mazda CX-3 comparison. This is not the first comparison we’ve done for either car and didn’t really considered the two competitors for various reasons as you will see.
Jeep Renegade CX-3 Vs Mazda CX-3 exterior: The Jeep Renegade is a retro theme with a dash of futurist thrown in to the exterior design language. It could actually be a manufacturer from South Korea if it didn’t have the trademark Jeep front end. We think the Renegade looks good and different from it’s current lot of competitors. The CX-3 looks like a high rise version of the CX-2 small hatch back (which it is based on) so it does look modern and sporty. We think the the longer engine bay gives it the appearance of sportiness. The CX-3 represents Mazda’s current design language definitely modern with some style and slightly different from the other Japanese brands. In the end we like both for different reasons so call it a draw for this part of the comparison.
Jeep Renegade Vs Mazda CX-3 interior: The common theme in both small SUV’s is that the materials used are very good. However the Jeep does cost significantly more than the CX-3 so it is expected. Since the CX-3 start under $20,000 its interior is the best in class, add the $500 interior style pack which is well worth it and you have a very nice interior. Sure the rear seat space is more limited and can be awkward getting into but at least it is there if you need it.
Thanks to the square exterior the Renegade’s interior is noticeably larger and with the ‘modern’ off-road styled dash and materials feels good even if there is less light gracing the interior. We like the Renegade interior for the space and all the practical reasons including nice seats in cloth trim however the overall ambience is not close to the CX-3 which simply looks nicer.
Jeep Renegade Vs Mazda CX-3 engine and technology: Both Renegade and CX-3 have the latest tech in terms of safety and entertainment systems the differences are in the engines and drive train. That said the Renegade has the benefit of a electronic assisted 4WD system although clearly not as advanced or replacement for a traditional 4WD hardware say in the Suzuki Grand Vitara. Even then only the the top range Renegade Trailhawk gets the 4WD system. However it has a a number of engine choices but none of them will appeal since they are all under powered. The CX-3 has the option a diesel engine and AWD system but given it doesn’t have the ride height and clearly not designed for off road adventures.
Jeep Renegade Vs CX-3 drive: Coming soon.
The conclusion based on spec and appeal, the Jeep Renegade makes a reasonable argument but two key factors will make most small SUV shoppers look else where. The biggest and real problems with the Jeep Renegade is of course reliability and high price. Unless to you don’t care or maybe want to go off road (one way) and simply must have a Jeep then give it a go but the cheaper CX-3 although a little smaller is the better package as you are getting a ton of equipment and style.
