Welcome to the Mazda CX-5 Vs the Renault Koleos comparison for 2017. The Renault Koleos was only released last year and we regard it as a good alternative to the mainstream smallish-medium sized SUVs. Although the Koleos is based on the Nissan X-Trail you would be hard pressed to see any similarities between the two models which is great for both brands. The CX-5 is it’s own design and impresses in terms of overall package and more impressive than the superseded model.
Mazda CX-5 Vs Renault Koleos exterior design comparison: The Renault is a good looking SUV and styled to differentiate it from it’s competitors. The CX-5 is also a good looking car and styled to make more of an impression with many stereotypical chrome upmarket touches. The CX-5 evokes comparisons to the latest Jaguar F-Pace SUV although some of us say that comparison is a bit of a stretch but the CX-5 was released first. Chrome highlights have been kept to a minimum which helps give it a more modern look and appeal to younger buyers. In the end though the Koleos has a little too much bling hence little dated compared to the CX-5 but both are individual.
Mazda CX-5 Vs Renault Koleos interior comparison: The Renault as a manufacturer has never been considered as a luxury or prestige brand and you should not expect that when you get into the Koleos. It’s a nice and spacious interior with only one flaw being the huge bezel or border around the media screen in the mid and top end of the model range. Renault should be commended to offering such a large screen and the semi-digital dash but the other details like the metal like interior highlights are just too numerous to be called elegant hence tending to a little tacky, just like the exterior really. That said that makes the entry level Koleos look more expensive than it should be. The Koleos interior is much better than the last model that’s for sure and the only centre console brings the whole interior ambience down. The Mazda CX-5 interior is a nice place to be, it’s materials and design look and feel more luxurious in the top end model and decent in base level trim. The Koleos is more impressive at first glance in all model grades while that CX-5 goes from good to very good in the top end models.
Mazda CX-5 Vs Renault Koleos engine and technology: The Renault Koleos in Australia has two engines, the OK 2.5 litre petrol and paired with a CVT auto transmission. This is combination is shared with the Nissan X-Trail meaning it should be reliable which is the best thing we can say about it. The Koleos safety systems is class standard with airbags and backing systems however the full suite is available as an optional safety pack. The CX-5 has a range of different engines including a diesel and more safety systems as standard which include the desirable auto brakes.
Mazda CX-5 Vs Renault Koleos on road: N/A
The winner of the Mazda CX-5 Vs Renault Koleos comparison is the CX-5! The CX-5 is a definite winner against the Koloes due to a few key features. The CX-5 has auto brakes and two turbo diesel for tech trump card and most of all does not a CVT. That said the Koloes is a very good SUV on it’s own but the interior could have been better by redesigning the centre stack for a more upmarket look as it completely distracts form the clearing upmarket parts else where and a more powerful standard engine would also be appreciated and a small price reduction.
