Welcome to our Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Honda CR-V comparison for 2019. This is part of an unusual series of comparisons by mainstream standards aka popular motoring press, as why would any one compare a well known urban focused SUV with a genuine off-road capable SUV aka the Honda CR-V and the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport? We think they are comparable due to price and purpose, besides one of use was faced with a similar decision to sell the Prado for the current CR-V.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Honda CR-V exterior comparison : Simply put we like the Pajero Sports looks, it’s modern and sporty seemingly designed to impress many buyers but chase off others. The design of the latest CR-V may be overall conservative but the design details require more time to acknowledge and realise that the lines are unique and actual well though out. It’s is different to the other SUVs on sale.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Honda CR-V interior comparison : The CR-V has an interior designed to maximise the usefulness of available space for passengers and cargo. The fact that you can get a 7 seat version indicates it’s design is optimal. We liken it to a high rise mini van style interior. It’s very practical and looks good with high quality materials. It’s everything you’d expect in a SUV in 2019. Considering that it is the default choice for many small families around the world we would’t expect anything less. The Pajero Sport wasn’t designed for completely efficient use of interior space since it is based on the Triton Ute. However its good but does not have the same level of quality materials or design as the CR-V. On the balance the physically larger Pajero Sport interior arguably equals the space flexibility in the CR-V but not the ambience of the CR-V.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Honda CR-V engines and technology comparison : In terms of engines both have the best types available world wide. There is a powerful turbo diesel and state of the art geared transmission with a low range box 4WD system in the Pajero Sport, in comparison the CR-V has a modern 1.5 litre turbo petrol with plenty of power but hampered by the CVT transmission and a basic on demand AWD setup. There is the forgettable 2.0 no turbo version on cheaper CR-V if you can’t afford the 1.5 turbo. Standard safety systems in the CR-V are less than the Pajero Sport unless you option the additional safety pack and even then the CR-V is still missing the all round camera system as an example. If you want to tow big things than the Pajero Sport is the default choice.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Honda CR-V road test: The latest CR-V is nice drive with an informative and more direct steering but honestly feels just like a more responsive Honda Civic. The ride is nice relatively smooth and quiet but it’s quite easy to drive in traffic.
The conclusion of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Honda CR-V comparison is a tie. Admittedly the choice is a top range CR-V or a mid range Pajero Sport is the ultimate decision when buying. Few buy an entry level Pajero Sport or CR-V due to competitive pricing. If you never plan to go off road or want a smaller sized SUV on the outside but still have a large interior the CR-V is the best one but for the asking price. However the Pajero Sport has more features and capability for the price hence the better package to buy. However the price advantage the Pajero Sport for it’s features that it did have, is slowly diminishing hence more expensive even if you take on road fees and additional safety options to the CR-V.
