Welcome to the Jimny  vs Suzuki Jimny XL  comparison for 2024. The Jimny XL is the 4 door version of the latest 2 door Jimny. We don’t think there has ever been a 4 door version of the Jimny – so what are the differences and which version is better to buy?

Suzuki Jimny  vs Suzuki Jimny XL exterior comparison: First of all the Jimny’s are retro styled small SUV but they are traditional and genuine 4WD, designed for commercial and off road use.  The styling is deliberately retro and resembles the original models from the 70’s. It is also important to point out that Jimny re-designs don’t happen very often, for example the last model from 1998 lasted for 20 years. Both regular and XL Jimny models look great to be honest and is part of the reason why they are so desirable.

Suzuki Jimny  vs Suzuki Jimny XL interior comparison: The interior of both models are the same but the XL has more length. Sure there is not much width but regardless of model but there is plenty of head room and OK rear space. The deign is also retro inspired but all the tech is there along with the hard plastics which suit the design perfectly. The engine is not exactly a powerhouse but it is adequate and flooring the throttle is the best way to drive it on road. Off road requires the magic of the low range box to multiply power.

Suzuki Jimny  vs Suzuki Jimny XL  engines and technology comparison: Both share the same engines, transmissions and safety package. There is  4WD low range box as it’s still equipped with life time solid front and rear axles but there are modern tech features such as hill decent, brake hold, traction control in 4WD that help like diff locks, lane watch, ABS, lots of airbags and even auto brakes if specified. There is no technical difference except in size. Note that due to the solid axels the ride may be firm but raising ride height is easy and even – they look even better with a small lift kit. Unfortunately the small engine is a problem in higher speed traffic situations.

Suzuki Jimny vs Suzuki Jimny XL  winner of the comparison are both. The Jimny occupies a niche class of tiny SUVs and only appeals for those who are happy sacrifice a little space and out right road performance for customisability and near indestructability in urban and off road settings. Since there is no competition both models are quite expensive to buy which is their only problem and since Suzuki can’t make enough of them don’t expect prices to come down any time soon.
