I put this page up so that you can compare the 120 series Toyota LandCruiser Prado LC4 to the Ford Territory (SY series up to 2010). The Ford Territory is an Australia only model however you can import them privately or limited numbers as grey imports in other parts of the world.
Both are quite different 4WD SUV because the Ford Territory does not have the same capability off road Prado no matter how much you or anyone else want it to! The Ford is a road orientated model to essentially replace the Falcon wagon. The Territory is also more competitive with the SUVs like Toyota Kluger.
Why is it called the Territory? Only Ford’s marketing department can tell you the answer to that one! Just like all the SUVs that have names. This review relates to the 2009 SY or Mk2 Ford Territory.
After driving one we came away impressed with what is a new model from Ford. It’s quiet handles well, plenty of power but with more revs and rides very well on normal roads.
See review and specification comparison below.
The Ford Territory comes in AWD – all wheel drive or 2 wheel drive, rear driven option on most models. We drove briefly was the AWD model and we can tell you it is a quiet, refined, good handling and lots of power! The ease of acceleration was notable after driving smaller 4 cylinder SUVs including the V6 Kluger.
If you bought the model with the Barra 245T engine you’ll have a very fast and comfortable SUV, admittedly one that uses a lot of petrol! We think it looks good too.
There are lots of model variants and options for the Territory so it shouldn’t be too hard to get a unique version. Specifications are for 2009 models. The interior also a nice place to be in with good quality materials used in the local Ford Falcon. However don’t look too closely. It’s nicer than many in the small SUV class. It is expected due to the price though.
The only thing that counts against the Ford Territory is the number of exactly the same complaints by lots of owners. So at least if you buy a Territory you will know what can go wrong if not addressed.
