This is the new Toyota RAV4 vs Holden Equinox comparison for 2019. We understand the positioning and reason for the Equinox to exist in the market but we don’t understand the pricing and actual car it’s self. The Equinox is a cheap SUV priced in the same range as much better equipped and reliable models form Toyota, Subaru and even former equivalents Hyundai and Kia. Overconfidence and belief in their own marketing is their downfall. The RAV4 on the other hand is becoming the package that all other manufacturers need to beat.
Toyota RAV4 vs Holden Equinox exterior design : The Equinox is a nice and conservative looking design but it is dated and clearly based on a Daewoo and clearly a ‘cheaper’ appearance. Nothing wrong with parking one in the driveway but just not your driveway. The Holden badge doesn’t work as everyone knows it’s a tarted up Daewoo underneath. While the new RAV4 has derivative design language it looks better and more substantial. We even took the badges off to do a fair comparison and still ended up with the same conclusion.
Toyota RAV4 vs Holden Equinox interior: The Equinox interior is nicer than the exterior suggests and it is a decent place to be in just not anything special. The Equinox honestly feels like a early 2010 design than 2019. Thankfully it doesn’t look bad except for cheap looking steering wheel, controls, necessary shines chrome like trim and old school design language. Even the top range $50,000 model interior is feeling the cheap side. The RAV4 on the other hand is a nicer more modern interior and on trend place to be in.
Toyota RAV4 vs Holden Equinox engines and technology: The Equinox still has the benefit of one powerful petrol engine and for 2019 a new turbo diesel engine but is underpowered. Safety systems are class average as standard but there is a safety pack which includes auto brakes and even a HUD. The Toyota RAV4 has all the latest safety systems mostly as standard and Hybrid engine option to distance it’s tech prowess from the Equinox. In typical Toyota fashion the RAV4 s not slow or fast jut what you’d expect in terms for performance.
The conclusion and winner to the new Toyota RAV4 vs Holden Equinox comparison is simple the RAV4: The Equinox only has one feature worth mentioning and that is the high powered 2 litre petrol turbo when optioned. The rest of the Equinox package is not special. In comparison the RAV4 is ideal package when equipped with a Hybrid engine and it’s not overpriced. However the high demand and waiting lists for delivery of the RAV4 is annoying. Thats said you won’t buy a Equinox over the new RAV4 unless you want the turbo petrol option.
