I put this page up so that you can compare the 120 series Toyota LandCruiser Prado LC4 to the Mitsubishi Challenger otherwise known as the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport. The Mitsubishi Challenger (KH Series) is the name that will be used in Australia. This series was released in 2009 and based on Mitsubishi It is currently for sale elsewhere in the world already as of 2009. (At the time this page was written.)
The Pajero Sport is not related to the bigger regular Pajero. The Pajero Sport is based on the Mitsubishi Triton/Trojan/L200 utility truck. The major components are shared but the Challenger has more passenger friendly parts. It can also seat up to 7 by the way. This car is not a direct competitor to the Prado since it is smaller and certainly has no upmarket components although 90’s style fake wood trim is everywhere in the interior. Besides it is a traditional 4WD and clearly more hard core than regular SUVs. Specification comparison below.
The Challenger is more comparable to the overseas version of the Toyota Fortuner or any other utility based vehicle that has been converted to carry passengers. However it is not the same as the 4Runner which is based on the current bigger HiLux.
This class of vehicles have much more off road and 4WD capability than smaller SUVs, for example the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail or Honda CRV. However the trade off is less on-road handling.
The engines available for the Challenger/Pajero Sport are the same as those for the Triton utility. So they are decent enough. It uses more basic hardware so it will be more durable and probably be easier to fix if something does go wrong.
One thing about this car is that I think it looks much better in real life than it does in pictures.
Note that specifications will change according to the trim models available and additional or less accessories. You should check the official Mitsubishi website for your country for the most up to date information.
