Here’s a quick comparison between the current 200 Series LandCruiser and the 2013 Nissan Patrol or Infinity QX56. These will be the two biggest SUVs you can buy in the country. The forth coming Patrol is yet to be given a official series name but expected be called the YP62 series or possibly P56 when released.
We have already checked out the production version of the Patrol at the motor show and the Infinity QX56 in Hawaii. The new model is definitely a complete upgrade from the the existing Patrol and more in line with the top range series 200 series LandCruiser. Mind you the 200 series has been around for 3 years and most likely in its mid life.
The new Nissan Patrol’s exterior is new but evolutionary and has a hint of Toyota however the interior is literally impressive for a Nissan and a SUV! Sure it is conventional in design but it does leave a luxury impression that is probably as good as a Lexus. The engine choices likewise are impressive but clearly not designed for primary fuel efficiency. However in this class that not unusual since they need to excess power and performance.
The new Nissan Patrol interior is the first talking point. It is a truly modern experience and looks great. It is easily better looking than the LandCruiser. The interior is like an updated version of the Nissan Murano in terms of feel. The only let down is the use of some cheaper quality switches from lesser Nissan models. The switches eg. the electronic seats are not at eye level so it is forgivable. The design is more Japanese than European which sets it apart.
The exterior and panels are nice and chunky and have a quality feel in terms of size the Patrol is huge. Based on the show preview the Patrol is bigger and better looking than the 200 series LandCruiser.
Note that the Infinity QX56 is essentially the same as the new Patrol and if you live in the US can be bought right now. The QX56 looks are unique and more controversial. It is significantly different compared to what believe is a poorly enhanced Lexus version of the 200 series.
The look and feel of the new Nissan Patrol is very good and should be on the shopping list for anyone considering a 200 series Toyota LandCruiser or the Lexus alternative. Toyota will need to lift it’s game because on first impressions the new Nissan Patrol is that good.
