This is our Honda HR-V Vs Kia Seltos comparison for 2022. This is arguably the most appropriate comparison in the smallish SUV class at the moment. They are targeted at the same buyers who want the reasonably sized inoffensive high rise hatchback in all areas and that doesn’t cost too much. We don’t think the HRV or Seltos are close to the the best choices in the price range for an number of key problems but how do they compare to each other if you had two choose between them?
Honda HR-V Vs Kia Seltos exterior comparison: Both are conservative looking SUV with HRV being ‘liftback’ styling and the Seltos being more van like in design. Neither impresses in terms of looks which are clearly deliberate design choices for both brands. After all they have much more appealing current and prior designs. The Seltos is the bigger car if space is a important purchasing factor. The Seltos is also an odd model for the brand by looking very ordinary and ‘cheap’ it is currently the most boring design in the range in 2022.
Honda HR-V Vs Kia Seltos interior comparison: The Honda HRV has a nice interior design and presentation. The interior has plenty of space for people but no so much luggage. In comparison the Seltos has plenty of space for both but it is the bigger car. The Seltos interior is quite generic and in terms of design and there are plenty of cheap parts on show. The large stereo screen is arguably the nicest part of the interior. In the end prefer the more modern /retro/Zen deign in the HRV.

Honda HR-V Vs Kia Seltos engines and tech comparison: The Kia Seltos has interesting specs using the generation of engines that are not known to self ignite just yet. However it does have a DCT which is not flawed and certain issue are glossed over by self proclaimed professional reviewers. We have not driven a DCT that we like so far. The turbo 1.6 is the best version to get if you want a bit of zippiness. The HRV has two engines as well, with the entry live 1.5 non-turbo underpowered. The Hybrid HRV is the best model to buy out of the two but does not have the economy of competitor Hybrid engines. Safety is dependent on model grade and relatively well equipped. We don’t like going through the list as specification changes quite often.
The conclusion and winner of the Honda HR-V Vs Kia Seltos is neither. At the time of this review the large price increases for exactly the same model grade Kia Seltos is not exactly affordable as it used to be. But it does have the performance space and features package the HRV cannot match. In comparison the HR-V is ridiculously expensive. There are better options that these two that’s for sure. Speaking about price increases – we think it is just taking advantage of the current world situation – we would kindly ask any readers not to buy a new SUV at this time as you are wasting your money especially if it is a petrol powered model. We would also suggest that you buy a manual version as you not only get fuel consumption savings x2 the driving enjoyment but a deterrent to drive it in traffic to save petrol. Save the world and your money.
