Welcome to the 2012 Mazda CX-5 vs Kia Sportage comparison and review page. Both are two of the newest models in the compact SUV class and both are arguably the best models in the class.
The new CX-5 replaces the stylish CX-7 and to be honest the CX-7 looks better and remains looking up to date at least on the outside. The CX-7’s interior look good but feels feels older than the the CX-5. You could never mistake the CX-7 for any other brand where as the CX-5 looks too much the same as a number of other brands and not a stand out. The Mazda CX-5 also (arguably) is fitted with the most advanced petrol engine on the planet. It’s has good power and most of all economical.
The Kia Sportage has been round for about over 18 months and still looks good on the road. The Sportage interior still looks and feels good although the design themes take a little time to understand. Overall the package is great and deserves to draw showroom traffic. By 2012 standards the Sportage does not have any advanced engine technology to promote unlike the CX-5. Of course it won’t be too long before Kia updates their engine line up.
Until we drive both we can only compare them based on on technical specifications and claimed performance figures. Based on these specifications and showroom the Mazda CX-5 comes out ahead. However on an emotional basis and cost to buy, the Sportage is the better choice as it looks better, newer, cheaper and more equipment. We’ll update the page after the drive.
