Welcome to our comparison of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Toyota Land Cruiser Prado for 2018. There are very few real 4WD family wagon available to buy in 2018. Essentially Mitsubishi and Toyota have the market cornered for the time being. However there are other lesser entries like the Ford Everest, Holden Trailblazer, Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Wrangler, and Isuzu MU-X. That said with the Prado receiving a much needed update we decided to compare with the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport because their genuine off road SUVs.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Toyota Land Cruiser Prado exterior: The Pajero Sport is a genuinely sporty looking SUV, very different and very modern. You can’t missing in the carpark or on the road. The rear end of the Pajero Sport is the most controversial design feature, being virtually flat and with heartbeat lights down the sides. Over time we think it looks even better which indicates great design. The Land Cruiser Prado is essentially a update of the superseded model which was a nice traditional design and now more inline with the current 200 series Land Cruiser. The revised design is not exactly pretty and more conservative than the original release.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Toyota Land Cruiser Prado interior: The Pajero Sport has a good looking and feeling interior. While it isn’t particularly upmarket but the materials fit it’s price range perfectly hence it is difficult to complain about. Regardless of model grade it is clearly design as a commuter rather than commercial use. On the other hand the Land Cruiser Prado, while nice to be in does not feel worth the price. The redesign has made it more retro and only slightly better than the last model. Unlike the Prajero it is clearly designed to be converted from commercial or stripped down interior to a more comfortable one although not exactly luxurious. In terms of space the Prado is much more spacious, although it appears smaller on the outside in isolation.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Toyota Land Cruiser Prado engines and technology: To keep things simple, both have the latest safety tech dependent on model grade and entertainment system in thePajero Sport is better than the Prado in many ways. Even the 4Wd and traction control systems are pretty much the same although the Prado has more CPU power with the CRAWL system that can drive it’s self out of many situations. The engine department is where the biggest change is. Pajero Sport and Prado are now only diesel engines with the Pajero 8 speeds and the Prado 6 speeds. The diesel in the Prado only make makes adequate power considering it’s heavy weight. The Pajero has similar power but with the lighter weigh and more gears to be the better performer. Tech specs are great base to compare but it is the intrinsic design in the Prado that makes it a popular car, proven reliability the quietness, the ride quality, off road ability and so forth.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Toyota Land Cruiser Prado road test: Yet to drive the Pajero Sport so check back later.
The conclusion of the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport vs Toyota Land Cruiser Prado comparison is the Pajero Sport. Essentially you get 90% capability of the Prado for $20,000 less when the equipment packages are compared. The base Pajero Sport is under $50,000 likewise the mid-range which we think makes this the most affordable and arguably the best medium sized SUV. Reputation speaks and the Prado is worth a consideration if you can afford it.
