Welcome to the Hyundai Tucson vs Kia Sportage comparison for 2021. The Hyundai Tucson is a high profile model thanks to it’s previously conservative but smart exterior and interior styling. (And it’s ability to self ignite) It’s price wasn’t too bad either. In comparison it’s under body twin in the form of the Kia Sportage offered more adventurous styling both in side and out together with perceived higher quality materials. So how does the new 2021/2022 Hyundai Tucson compare with the current Sportage – admittedly due to be replaced by another under body twin later in this year?
Hynudai Tucson vs Kia Sportage exterior: Hyundai Tucson has dropped the conservative lines for straighten creases with even more aggressive angles than what Lexus is using at the moment and what Mazda was doing but then toned it down. It does stand out against other manufacturer’s designs and even Kia’s at the time of this review. Although we think the new styling is forward thinking we don’t think many will warm to the literally sharpened but strategically lines immediately or over time. The Sportage’s currently design still looks modern and different compared to other SUVs in the class however in comparison to the new Tucson looks dated. We prefer the older Sportage for its arguably more cohesive design.
Hyundai Tucson vs Kia Sportage interior: The Tucson uses a different interior styling theme not only to other Hyundai models the time of this review. The Tuscon’s interior is best described as a cross between the Subaru Tribeca and Toyota Previa school of design from the 90’s and contrasts the exterior. It’s not bad it’s just different – bordering on the lack of design cohesion also seen on Hyundai’s of the 80’s and 90’s. The Sportage interior is still a decent place to be in in 2021. The materials are just as nice if not slightly better and mostly looks more expensive. They are not luxury interiors but nice ones for the price range.
Hyundai Tucson vs Kia Sportage engines and technology: Although the Tucson is the newer model but it has carry over engines including the turbo from the other Hyundai models, likewise the Sportage – but in the end both share engines and underbody tech. There is nothing out of the ordinary just a decent amount of gadgets and is dependent on model grade. It must be noted that the safety systems on the Tucson are fully featured on all model grades with features like adaptive cruise control – surprising. The Sportage is lacking a number of the less useful safety systems but be forgiven due to the age and price. Note that diesel engine optios are no longer available.
Hyundai Tucson vs Kia Sportage drive : N/A
The conclusion to the 2022 Hyundai Tucson vs Kia Sportage is the Tucson. While the Kia Sportage still has plenty going for it, it is the older model and missing up to date tech and safety systems available in the new Tucson. As they are still similar priced it is arguably better going for the latest. That said the looks of the new Hyundai Tucson are polarizing but partly compensated for by high equipment levels. The model grade progression is well researched and competitive with any other brand. The only obvious flaws are now higher base price, old engines and many more competitors.
