Here’s the comparison between the all new Toyota Fortuner Vs Toyota Landcruiser Prado (150 series). With the release of the all new Toyota Fortuner we now have a ‘mid-sized’ SUV based on the all new Hilux. With the Fortuner release the Prado has been updated with an all new diesel engine which both models share. The new model is like the old 4runner in concept, we can’t understand why they didn’t stick with the old name everyone still remembers and sees on the road. That said the 4Runner is now an US exclusive which we have had the pleasure to drive but that is not what is review is about.
Toyota Fortuner Vs Toyota Prado exterior: The Fortuner uses all the current design themes by Toyota so it looks very modern with the latest ‘winged tapered rear window treatment. Expect this style to enter the SUV range shortly especially since Nissan has already introduced it the forth coming Murano and Maxima. The Fortuner definitely looks much like the forth coming models from other brands and manufacturers including the Lexus RX. On the other hand the 150 series Prado has been around for years but still manages to look modern and in some ways luxury like. We prefer the updated Fortuner it actually pushes Toyota’s design language.
Toyota Fortuner Vs Toyota Prado interior: Although sharing a lot of underbody parts with the Hilux the Fortuner’s interior is different from the Hilux and it is a little more conservative but at the same time different from it’s competitors. The Fortuner’s interior quality is actually quite good but it’s not premium more in the Corolla/Camry class. Dependent on which model grade you choose will of course effect your impression, that said the SR5 is pretty good. The brown themed interior actually looks good in all models. also needs to mentioned The Prado interior design is looking old and less than impressive for the price but it is better than the Fortuner. That said the Prado interior is quite well equipped these days and is noticeably bigger than the Fortuner.
Toyota Fortuner Vs Toyota Prado engines and technology: The only thing in common with both cars is the new diesel engine. Toyota notes that the diesel in the Prado has additional refinement parts whereas the Fortuner shares the same design as the Hilux. There are lots of tech both with including 4Wd systems that will enable most owners to how most places without any experience, but the Prado has a few more tricks. Apart from that both have the expected level of safety and entertainment system dependent on which model grade you choose. The Prado still has the surprisingly efficient 4 litre V6 petrol for a car in 2015 and has plenty of performance where as the Fortuner only has the single diesel.
Toyota Fortuner Vs Toyota Prado road test: N/A
Deciding which one will be based on price for the base to mid range models since there is a huge price jump to the top range Kakadu in the Prado. That said the Fortuner isn’t exactly cheap starting around for 48K for the basic GX model. Although none of use have the 2.8 diesel engined Prado you can expect that it will be more refined version than the Fortuner and you can also be sure that the Prado does have traditional luxury car ride. The size difference if you need it also goes the Prado’s way but you may prefer the modern styling of the Fortuner better. Lots of things to consider when choosing between these two and only driving both will we be able to decide which one is the winner – coming soon.
