Welcome to the first of the 2WD utility or commercial comparison page. We've put the two together for essentially a 'top trumps' comparison since no-one bothers about these types of cars because they are relatively expensive when compared to regular cars and station wagons.

We are not certain about sales figures but the dual cab non-4WD (2WD) utilities are probably the most useful and reliable cars you can buy. Both are direct competitors around the world which makes this a valid comparison.

Neither utility comes in truly family friendly packages. That said the Navara is the better one because the packaging is more in line with what the multi-role market expects and also better as a family commuter than the Hilux.

The Navara is also available in the 2.5 litre diesel engine which has plenty of cred against the Hilux.

Nissan Navara Dual Cab 2WD
VS
Toyota Hilux Dual Cab 2WD

The interior of both cars are essentially the same as the 4WD versions but the base trim of the Navara is better albeit with lower level of deign and materials. Although both are in base trim the Navara has more standard equipment but is slightly more expensive. It is as if Nissan is targeting the dual or triple purpose family car rather than the Hilux which is clearly for commercial use.

In terms of exterior presentation the Navara in dual cab 2WD package is better than the Hilux. It rides higher and has bigger tyres and wheels. The 2WD Hilux is completely out of proportion due to it tiny standard tyres. The Navara wins this part of the comparison.

We have not driven the 2WD version of the Navara - only the Hilux. The 2WD Hilux is everything you'd expect a small truck to be especially in 4 cylinder petrol version. Best get the turbo diesel or the V6 Hilux. However what adds cred to the Navara (from our drives in the 4WD version) the Navara also has the better day to day ride and is probably the better choice.

Note that since these are commercial vehicles, their specifications can vary significantly dependent on specifications.
