After listing the Ultimate SUV/4WD comparison it was quite clear that there are other models worthy of consideration. They may not have the off road capability of the LandCruiser but they don't cost as much to buy or maintain either. There are so many different makes and models to choose from so take your time! Not everyone needs or wants a LandCruiser sized 4WD but everyone's needs change over time. So we decided to look that the most popular and interesting small and compact SUVs or 4WD available and see if it we could live with them. We haven't driven all of them yet - only our favorites. We started with the Honda CR-V because it is our favorite small SUV - for the time being. Great Wall Motors X240 All the cars compared here are classified as small or compact sized Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV). Each model is marketed differently but that does not mean that they are better or worse in capability. Likewise price does determine whether they are any better or worse on or off road. However all these models are clearly designed to spend the majority of time on the road. If you go off road all the time there are very few models that will meet your requirements hence the soft-roader tag. So we've classified them into various categories based on what we know of their purpose and specifications into off road or on road bias models. One final thing - we have not decided on getting the CRV yet since we now like the Nissan Murano and the Kia Sportage. Their on road capabilities appeal yet we also want to go off road (to the beach) which doesn't leave many choices. This is getting too hard... |
