Here's a comparison between the Toyota Landcruiser 70 series ute or cab chassis and the Nissan Patrol Cab chassis or ute. We did this comparison purely out of curiosity since we've never looked at them before.

The Patrol and the LandCruiser Ute have been around for over 10 years with only a few changes. Both are basically mini trucks and commercial vehicles. However they have some passenger friendly features that make them desirable for a certain niche of people not in to farming mining or outback work.

The Nissan Patrol Ute has more road friendly specifications than the LandCruiser Ute although both are biased to simple interiors, mechanicals for durability and load carrying than handling off road work without the need for 4wd electronic traction control systems.

We can see the benefit of having these sort of cars however there are significant compromises if you intend to drive one as daily transport in the city. Lets be realistic, automatic transmission,  electric windows and mirrors are considered luxuries in these sort of cars.

Specification comparison below!

70 Series Toyota LandCruiser Ute Cab Chassis
VS
GU Series Nissan Patrol Ute Cab Chassis

Looks are subjective - the LandCruiser ute looks good in GXL trim and likewise the Nissan Patrol in ST trim. However on the inside the GU Patrol Ute is much more comfortable and modern than the LandCruiser Ute by a long way.

There are lots of variation in specifications related to the tray and other accessory packs so we have posted the GXL version of the LandCruiser Ute and the Patrol ST version of the Nissan Ute (tray-less naturally). The Nissan Ute also has the option of rear coil or leaf springs which makes things a bit different. Thankfully the basics remain essentially the same for comparison purposes.

These types of cars are really built to either carry stuff with a variety of different and customized tray configurations in off road terrain. The ability to tow over 3 tonnes as well a the 1000kg plus in the tray shows how tough these cars are. They are also quite expensive for normal buyers. Company and fleet purchases will clearly get a more reasonable pricing.
