Here's a comparison of the latest SWB 2 door Jeep Wrangler (JK Series) and the SWB 2 door Land Cruiser Prado. I've put up this page because the Jeep Wrangler probably the most popular 3 door 4WD sold in the country. Over 1600 sold in 2010 so far. There is also a larger 4 door Wrangler (Unlimited) available if you want more space.

The Jeep Wrangler has been on the market for decades and they seem to update it every decade or so too.  The Wrangler is a retro design inspired off-road biased 4WD. It is a car you'd consider if you spend a lot of time off road and certainly not dressed in a suit.

VS
Jeep Wrangler

The exterior design theme have not changed for decades and despite that it still looks modern. It look like a proper 4WD although everything underneath it has been modernized. We like the look but not some of the build quality.

The interior of the wrangler reflects its exterior and is a very basic and uses hard wearing materials. We think it feels a tad cheap but presumably it will last the distance. We do not have any comment about its reliability. It really does represent the American motor industry until the GFC.

The mechanicals used for the Wrangler are based on technology decades old. Pushrod petrol engines and diesels. Surprisingly though it is quite a fast car on or off the road.

There are lots of things to like about the Jeep - such as the ability customize, detachable body panels, its off road ability and the convertible experience without the metrosexual tag. Unless you don't mind of course. Likewise there are lots of things to dislike. The Wrangler is not a refined car. It is noisy and rough riding - like what 4WDs used be a few decades ago.

However it is a very cool car if you live in the city but it is quite a large. Anywhere else where long distance travel is required you have to be able to handle the lower levels of refinement.

The best thing about the Jeep Wrangler is price. It starts for around $31,000 AUD and deals with accessories and on road can be haggled for obvious reasons. I have seen some in the papers for under $30,000 - new. The Wrangler is something different and a genuine off road car that can cope with the city.

Despite similar packaging the two cars are completely different.
