This is a comparison review of between the Toyota Prado and the Lexus RX350 and 450h. (350 GGL15R 450h GYL15R) The Lexus RX series is the first luxury/prestige SUVs. It's reliable, quiet, great ride, reasonably powerful, safe handling, high passenger safety, above average equipment and technology, well made and so on. Everything the Lexus brand represents. You could say it is a more expensive Toyota. There are a few competitors to the Lexus RX350 these days and they are quite different from each other. However if you must know we think the one that comes closest concept, which also happens to be cheapest, being the Nissan Murano. However if you are after hybrid SUV the only one to consider is the RX450h. We like what the Lexus RX series represents and almost bought the prior generation, the only reason why we didn't was it's lack of real off road ability. So we're revisiting the current model so see
if we're sill interested. The specification comparison and review are
listed below. |

The interior of the both RX350 and RX450 are high quality but honestly a tad disappointing. In terms of design they have gone for the minimalist look - which is fine but it doesn't work in this case. The central joystick for virtually all controls is just too hard to get familiar with quickly. The context sensitive menus are difficult - just as bad as the BMW implementation. Why not buttons which look much more impressive if made right and don't have multiple functions. As it is presentation and quality (while very good) still needs to be improved. Misshaped buttons seemingly placed randomly (until you get used to it) the LED clock in particular looks very down market what are you thinking Lexus? At least the stereo still sounds great. We where impressed with the quiet and smoothness of the prior generation and on doubt this model is even better however we simply couldn't get past the new interior that isn't quite right or feels near $100,000 AUD worth. Thankfully the RX450h version has the engine technology that
may convince buyers that this car is worth a closer look. It has plenty of
power and fuel economy that is superior to the 350 version. |
