Here's a quick comparison between the 150 series Toyota Land Cruiser Prado specifications and the BMW X5 (2011 model).  Although the two are aimed at different parts of the market I thought it would be an interesting comparison. Note that the BMW will be updating the X5 by the end of the year (2010).

The BMW X5 has been a favorite all over the world for lots of reasons. It looks good, drives well and has the BMW badge.  It's not really an off-road 4WD so isn't comparable in this aspect. However everywhere else it is clearly worth consideration if off-road driving is not a priority.

BMW X5
VS
150 Toyota LandCruiser Prado

Also since the basic BMW X5 is about the same as the top grade Prado they are comparable in terms of pricing. Admittedly you don't get much equipment in the basic X5 other than just the badge.

The BMW X5 like all BMWs can be customized to the extreme but at a price. Hence there are plenty of engine and equipment choices.

The interior looks good and the materials use like wise standard BMW. It is a nice airy place to be but due to the 'sparseness' of the interior. The Prado doesn't feel as solid as the BMW or do the materials used by Toyota, slightly under the BMW. That said the Mercedes M-Class in my opinion is even better the two.

Regardless the BMW is an option to consider if in the market for the top range Land Cruiser.

Other SUV you should also consider if looking at buying an X5 is Volkswagen Toureg, Mercedes M-Class and Land Rover Discovery.
