Lots have happend since the last update.  I installed the latest Fusion 2 software update called 2.0.1-128865.  After installation the XP virtual machines worked even better than the last!  No more sluggish performance – everything thing was fine in my world again.

The latest Fusion 2  upgrade clearly made a noticeable difference in terms of usability I recommend it to anyone.

However there is still one major upgrade I need to perfrom and that is the Windows XP SP3 upgrade.  As far as I know people seem to have had problems with running VMWare and XP SP3.

Sure I can try the upgrade in a copy of the Virtual machine but I haven’t got the time time just yet to dedicate myself to the upgrade should something go wrong.

Besides I need something to write about next month!

VMWare Fusion 2 November 2008 Update

My day to day experience of Fusion has been mixed this month.

Version 2 while having quite a few new features for managing the virtual machine’s system settings and program graphics seems to be sluggish in performance and at one time hung – compared to the last version.  I haven’t installed any new software on the machine so it seems like a bug of some sort.

There is a newer version (2.0.1) that has been released but I haven’t tried it yet.  So next update I’ll probably have something further to say about it.

Windows Vista in November 2008

It has been over 1 year since Vista was released.  Since the upgrade of my main Vista PC with 3Gig of RAM performance is finally acceptable. It finally runs programs at XP speeds.

I still do not understand why so much processing power along with memory is required to run an operating system.  XP which is my benchmark works amazingly well on hardware 1/4 the requirements of Vista’s requirements.

PUSHING more advanced technology done in this way, only a monopoly could achieve that – Vista – it offers nothing new for the masses at significantly higher cost is just weird.  The fact that they got away with Vista is not going to be forgtten.

We have to be thankful for and try alternatives.
