Introduction Here is a comparison between the Honda CR-V and the 2010 Mitsubishi ASX. The all new ASX or RVR as it is known in some countries has finally been released and it is a car worth a look and comparison. It is not technically a CRV competitor based on price and size. The ASX belongs to a smaller AWD class such as the Suzuki Liana/SX4 and the Nissan Dualis or Qashgai. |

Exterior design of the latest Mitsubishi ASX follows the theme set by other Mitsubishi's like the Outlander and the Lancer. The rally inspired and seemingly flat front end is a standout element and looks good on most models in the range. We do not think the rest of the ASX design is as good as the front end. It is a bit conservative and slightly odd towards the rear of the car. A nice bigger set of wheel might help. We still think the CRV looks better. The interior of the ASX is surprisingly minimal in appearance and yet comfortable. In terms of design it does look like it belongs to a small regular sedan. In terms of materials it looks and feels like a regular car too. We think that the design of the dash made it feel better than the Lancer. The cool features include a multicolored LCD infomation screen in the dash between the Rev counter and Speedometer along with the updated stereo system with the MMCS system that is the GPS and controls various other electronics. It also comes with a sub-woofer in the top range Aspire versions. The interior design and quality also beats most of the
competitors in the same class and a number of more expensive cars. It also
looks and feels better than the Lancer. The CRV is still better packaged but
it is equal in terms of feel. |

The ASX is available as a front wheel drive only or AWD. It's off-road capability? probably as good/bad as the CRV based on specifications. The Mitsubishi ASX is marketed as a city based SUV so don't expect taking it too far off road. In terms of engines it shares the engine and parts with the Lancer so it is lively with good refinement as per most Mitsubishi engines but always wanting a little bit more. I came away impressed with the ASX. Not fast but normal in the petrol version. The diesel version with much more power seems to be model to choose if you want additional performance. Overall it is a very decent car regardless of what equipment level you get. The Mitsubishi ASX will appeal to those who want say a VW Golf but with AWD capability or Subaru buyer who don't need the slightly bigger space in CRV sized car. The CRV has better steering feel than the ASX which is still fine - its up to you really. Ultimately regardless of the price gap, the ASX compared to the Honda CRV does very well. interior and parts not all that different likewise performance. The only thing that would direct me to the CRV is that it looks better on the outside. We will do another comparison page with Nissan Dualis and the Mitsubishi ASX shortly.
