Introduction Here's a comparison between the Honda CR-V and the 2010 VW Tiguan. The Tiguan was released in late 2008 as an all new competitor in the small SUV class. It is based on the Golf and thus the Audi A3 as well. The VW Tiguan (2010) is a good car - we can probably add that it is probably one of the best small SUV or soft roader we've tried to date. It only has one or two problems which include size and conservative looks. Definitely worth a look if you want a SUV that is small than a Honda CRV ot in the market for the Mistubishi ASX of Nissan Dualis. |

Exterior design is the Tiguan's biggest problem. It is a neither pretty or an ugly car it is just conservative. The styling is unadventurous for a clean sheet design that it could have been made in the early 2000's. The top range models have additional bling like chrome window accents but it still doesn't stand out. They should have used more styling clues from the DAKAR racer. Interior design of the Tiguan is like it's exterior, conservative. Thankfully the interior sets it apart from the existing SUV models by other manufacturer and it is the fit, finish and the quality of the materials. The Tiguan rates higher than all the other small SUVs we've looked at to date in terms of quality and is a very reassuringly solid car. It looks and feels more expensive than the others just like the Golf does in the hatchback class. The Tiguan's interior is better presented than our favorite CRV.

The utility aspect of the Tiguan is another area that needs some looking into. While there is quite a few places to put things it just does have the number of places the CRV or the class leading X-Trail. However the Tiguan has little features like a velour lined glovebox with a cooling vents that lifts the impression of luxury. Seating position is a surprise, nice and upright - it is again one of the best we've tried. Nice and comfy seats, better in cloth than leather. Almost all the switches feel good to use and plastic quality here your eyes fall are very good. The only thing you could complain about is the design of the steering wheel. Hope it get upgraded soon. Overall the ambience of the Tiguan could easily be described as a VW Golf like including the compact feeling of the interior. The basics are all there and being the newest small SUV is clearly ahead in terms of materials and quality. All it really needs is some more inspired design. In relation to the mechanical aspect, the Tiguan's constant AWD technology is the 4MOTION version used by all VWs. By all accounts it works as well as any of the other manufacturers. The system means that it has more off-road ability than most and better via smarter electronics on-road grip than many others. We really like the Tiguan it is our NEW equal favorite due to its substance. The only things I think it is really missing is a bit of design flair and that it is noticeably smaller car than the CRV and other competition. In the end if interior size and utility is not something you do not need than the Tiguan is a car you should seriously consider. If you want family friendly than consider the X-Trail or the CRV. We'll do definitely take this car for a test
drive as soon as possible.
