Here is a comparison between the Honda CR-V and the Dodge Nitro (KA series). The Dodge Nitro which is based on a Jeep, has been around for a few years now but until recently the price of the package was not attractive enough to attract buyers. However since the GFC prices have dropped to competitive levels and inline with it competitors here and overseas.

The Dodge Nitro is slightly larger SUV than normal small but since the price has dropped (2010) we did a comparison with the CRV on that basis. However regardless of how you work the figures it is still overpriced in Oz compared to its home country by eg $15,000 for the base model. Due to currency exchange rates and even import taxes -which are minimal there is no reason why it there should be that much of gap.

Ignoring the price issue the Nitro looks like a good package until you start looking at the details. Continue below to check out the details.

Dodge Nitro
VS
Honda CRV

The designs speak for themselves the Dodge Nitro is a conservative design for the US market. The Honda CRV is a global model design to SUV design forward. It is up to you which one appeals. The CRV's interior design is one of the most practical out there, plenty of storage places for lots of daily stuff. The only other car that is just as practical is the Nissan X-Trail. The Nitro has lots of interior space but its more for people not their stuff.

The Nitro's interior is nice but doesn't have the quality feel of even the latest Kia Sorrento. Hard plastic, the lack of quality and design of the interior is not impressive. It is usable and good enough for the mid-2000s not 2011. The Nitro looks bigger on the outside than it actually is on the inside.

The best thing about the Nitro is the engine. It's one of the few compact SUVs that come with a petrol V6 at an affordable price. The engine may not be the most advanced out there but it does give it the Nitro a selling point.

We liked the Nitro but it didn't make us feel any better or otherwise  than the rest. There also a number known mechanical problems you need to research before buying. Try it for your self because we can't agree to a conclusion on this car.
