Here is a comparison between the all new Ranger Rover Evoque and the Honda CR-V. Now this comparison is unfair on a number of levels BUT since we are very familiar with the CRV and test drove the Evoque like hundreds of others we decided to write up this comparison and initial impressions. Also the Evoque is significantly more expensive than the top range CRV priced at more than $20,000 on road for the basic Evoque with less equipment. It is hard to believe that the CRV has been around since 2006 and that it hasn't dated too much. It is also hard to believe that Range Rover's latest model first featured as a concept was actually released. It is a land mark model for the brand and meant for mass production. The Evoque is impressive to look at. It has a thoroughly exterior is modern and yet everyone who seen it loves it including us. Makes us wonder what happened to BMW design and Honda of late! |

The exterior of the fantastic, with a design that flows nicely from front to rear. Sure it is reminiscent of the latest Ford design themes, but there are enough of traditional Range Rover clues. The pictures say it all and even if it wasn't a Range Rover it will still turn heads. Much more interesting than the CRV. The interior of the Evoque is very good but definitely not as impressive as the exterior. Switch gear and major instruments are really high quality items but not a huge leap against the seemingly lesser VWs and BMW. If you've owned other prestige cars it does not take long to notice the cleverly used lower materials. Thankfully there are plenty of options to customize the interior to your liking and to add to the luxury ambience. That said if your prior car is 10 year old or close to it or even first generation SUV than you will be easily impressed. Against the CRV the Evoque has another easy win. The other major feature of Evoque is the range of engines. There are two of them available in most countries (3 overall). Both provide very good performance relative to the competition. However it needs the extra power because it weighs 200-300 Kg more! The high spec AWD system makes it easily better than the all others in the class too. The (too brief) drive lived up to expectations, being relatively quiet although road noise from the rear is intrusive and reasonably refined but the diesel does wobble but has sporty feeling steering and suspension, but a slight turbo lag doesn't make this initially as sporty (much much better than the CX-7) but it does a have solid quality that separates it from the rest as you'd expect from the higher price. It is pretty good but not out right impressive. |
