Introduction Here is a comparison between the Honda CR-V and the 2010 Renault Koleos. Renault is not a car brand which is well known in many parts of the world. More so not many know that it is tied up with Nissan! The French car manufacturer concentrates on selling in Europe which is fair enough and it is a profitable manufacturer. By all accounts it makes reliable cars so buying one should be good experience. The Renault Koleos is based on the Nissan X-Trail although is does seem unlikely since the two cars are very different in interior and exterior design.

Exterior design of the Koleos is modern and attractive. It is not as adventurous as the old Scenic RX4 which we liked. Both Honda and Renault look like they had related designers. The interior of the Koleos is a bit of a let down. Looks good in pictures but not as nice in real life. Quality of material needs to be improved to match the exterior design or maybe a redesign so that not so much plastic is seen. It reminds me of the RAV4. Apart from the Koleos seems like a decent competitor in the small SUV class. Mechanically the Koleos uses similar engines if not the same as those used by Nissan. Namely 4 cylinder petrol and diesels which are modern in design. Since the Nissan X-Trail ones are fine these engines should have similar characteristics. If there is anything wrong with the Koleos it is the handling. This comment is based on other reviews - it is simply that good on or off road. Mind you they are constantly improving so give a new one a go to see if you like it. Price wise there are lots of offers available since it is not a huge seller the bargains being the 2WD models. Most go for under the $30,000 AUD price which is good value. So if you want something different that your neighbors will probably never own then the Koleos is a great choice. We still prefer the CRV.
