Introduction Here is a comparison between the Honda CR-V and the 2011 Kia Sportage. The newest Sportage is a significant departure from any of its previous models which lets just say where not the prettiest cars on the road. The new Sportage is a complete contrast to the old model. The new one looks great and seemingly from a different manufacturer. The new model is not a copy of any existing models by other manufacturers but something a bit different. Kia will get more buyers and respect for it that's for sure. The latest Sportage uses the hardware from it's sister car the Hyundai ix35 which means a similar result? Read on... |

Exterior design of the latest Kia Sportage is very appealing. Kia has used both the latest European and Japanese design themes that do not result in a 'copy'. We think it is a stylish car that looks suitable for both young and old male and female drivers. It has better real life proportions than the Hyundai ix35. Take the badges off and it could be a model from any of the leading manufacturers. However the interior of the new Kia Sportage does not reflect the edgy exterior that you'd expect. You would expect a similar interior but instead you get a curvy dash similar to the ix35. The quality of materials is similar to the Hyundai and has some nice metal touches on some controls which give it a more expensive ambience than the ix35. It has more - dare I say Honda like styling to it. Just because the cheapest model is well - a bargain
compared to the others doesn't mean that you have to look like you have a cheap car and the Sportage looks great for the price. |

Mechanically the Kia has either a 2 wheel drive version and AWD versions with petrol and diesel engines. It is not a proper 4WD but in this class that doesn't really matter? The engines and presumably gearbox are the same as those on the ix5. Overall it looks like a decent car that can sell based on style. However Kia and Hyundai have admitted, they have to improve their suspension tuning to be competitive on the road in countries other than their home - Korea. If we wanted a city based car we would pick the Sportage over the Holden Captiva (easily), Hyundai ix35, Subaru Forester, and Toyota RAV4 but would still ultimately pick the CRV despite the higher price tag for now. If the budget doesn't stretch then YES I would consider the Kia Sportage and so should you! The new Sportage is on the to test drive list for us.
