Here is a comparison between the Honda CR-V and the Volvo XC60. The XC60 (DZ series) is Volvo's latest attempt to joining rest of the manufacturers in the compact SUV class. The XC60 differs from the majority of models by being an obvious luxury and safety focus rather than general affordability. Volvo's can no longer be compared to boxes with wheels from the 1980's and the XC60 is definitely not a box. The XC60 is a nice looking car that stands out from the pack that also happens to look up market both inside and out. It standards apart from the compact class in terms of everything including price and really needs to be compared against the most expensive and slightly bigger SUVs. The following is generally true statement: The Volvo XC60 is a cool car as true as once upon a time all bad drivers had Volvos. Of course not all Volvo drivers where bad but all the bad ones had a Volvo - got it! Got your attention - read on. |

The XC60 was made when it was still part of the Ford Motor empire but you can't tell. It's entire visible design is non-Ford and aligns more closely with Saab which was owned by rival GM. We like everything about the XC60. The choice of engines, interior, exterior, equipment levels, materials, build quality and most other things. There are also useful safety systems, like integrated child seats and object avoidance that go beyond what BMW or Mercedes currently offer. There are also plenty of options you can add which can take the price over $70,000 and that's for the base model! The top range T6 start at over $70,000 Furthermore the XC60 looks far better in the real world than in pictures. In comparison the CRV and the majority of the other compact SUVs just doesn't have the same sort of luxury feel as soon as you get in the drivers seat - which is fair enough because the CRV and others are cheaper than even the base XC60. The XC60 is probably better compared with the Audi Q5 or BMW or even Lexus RX. It takes awhile to get used to the spartan Swedish interior but after a little you understand and appreciate the quality consturction. The drive experience in the T6 version was very good - indeed excellent! Lots and lots of power, safe road feel - drives and imparts a better prestige better than the BMW or Audi - easily! We didn't try the other two versions. There is a 2WD or front wheel drive only version you can buy too but it is quite expensive. You'll have to decide if its worth it over the other models. Although the decision to buy and XC60 based on normal
considerations is easy the price is too high. At up to $30,000 over the top
range competition and it is only a Volvo its easy to dismiss it. Yes it is $10,000 better but not
$20,000 or $30,000 no matter how you look at it - although all that safety
equipment could convince you? |
